Good Stuff that comes out of Quarantine

Okay, we all have to admit: The virus sucks.  But I have had some positive things come out of quarantine: Today I played song quiz/movie quiz with my family (google home mini not sponsored) I play UNO with my family I watch movies everyday I play video games with my friends everyday (Roblox--also not sponsored) I started watching Who's the Boss? No FSAs!!!!! Post a comment down below on any awesome things that happened during quarantine!

Luiaard's Crits #3: Who's the Boss?

Oh my gosh. Have any of you heard of Who's the Boss? It was a show that started in the 80s about a housekeeper named Tony Micelli moving in Angela Bower's house to work there. Tony and his daughter, Samantha, moved from Brooklyn to Connecticut so Samantha could live a better life. The story builds up as Tony and Angela start having a relationship that is taking FOREVER, according to everyone who knows them. This show is so amazing! There are more characters to meet, like Angela's son (Jonathan) and Angela's mom, Mona. This show consists of 8 seasons, and it only took me a month or two to finish it! It is a really amazing show if you like comedies and romances (my type by the way). Stay tuned for an amazing story from Who's the Boss?

A Special Visit

Hello viewers! I can see that barely anyone is looking at my blog. But that's okay! I won't be translating anymore, I added a google translate widget where the three lines are :) This post is about what happened a couple days ago, when it was the last day of school. My mom had recently got an email about how my two 5th grade teachers were visiting every one of my classmate's houses. I was so excited! I waited and waited with anticipation. Then they finally came. I was so ecstatic. These teachers this whole school year had helped me, inspired me, and pushed me to be the best I could be. When they came, they gave me a shirt, a water bottle with my name on it, and an award (with a tiny pin too!). They even hugged me! That last day of school was still a very special day, even if the 5th graders and I didn't get a party. Seeing my two teachers still lit up a smile. If you can contact your teachers, say thank you because teachers are so awesome and do so much for you! Special

Walking in the Rain

It was only a couple days ago, when the rain was sprinkling in the air. That day, I thought, "My dad won't force me to go walking, yes!" I was sadly mistaken. My mom, dad, and I trudged through the rain, walking our regular walk. This walk inspired me to write a poem: Trudging through the rain The rain floated to the ground The clouds cried in pain And the sun was never found I felt the pavement splash And the grass tinkle Thunder struck, a big crash And I cowered at the sprinkles My umbrella wrapped around me The rain a'tapping The quietness surrounded me And the clouds stayed there, napping Trudging through the rain Again there's silent pain But I'll go through Like a soldier

Tweening my Summer Plans

Hello to you tweens out there! Today I'm going to show you some goals or plans you might want  to set for this summer. It doesn't exactly have to be the same, but you can organize all your goals this way (sorry your summer doesn't look like this): June: Goals: -Study science -Learn how to solve a 3 x 3 Rubix cube -Start a garden -Finish Algebra workbook July: Goals: -Clean out closet -Study social studies -Finish "How to Turn $100 into $1,000,000" -Scuba dive If you have a longer or shorter summer then you can readjust the structure of the goal sheet. These goals may not be your goals, but you can alter it so it matches your pace and interests. You can even add more things to it! I hope you can use this planning method or get inspired to make your own!

A Walk with the Birds

Image
Yesterday on my muggy evening walk with my parents, I saw a flock of birds as I walked. I think the birds were called egrets? Apparently my family and I weren’t the only flocks moving. They were huddled up together and they kept walking across the streets, pecking and stopping here and there. I saw the flock twice on my walk! Leave a comment if you know what type of birds they are, I would love to know!

New Content? Cool!

Hey viewers! Just letting you know I might post videos and/or pictures I have drawn. Just a quick update! Tune in tomorrow for more posts :)

Junky Friends

A couple months ago, my ex-friend (can't say her names...blog policies) emailed me and said something like, "Hi Rachel, IDK why you blocked me, but i miss u. Can you plz respond back if u see this?" Do you know why I blocked her in the first place?  She was sending me chain mail  ALL. THE. TIME.   Do you know what time I blocked her?  2019.  Wow, what kind of friend asks her ex-friend to become friends again during a  pandemic ? She sent me that a couple months ago. Do you know what happened two days ago? Let me show you the email: IT'S DONE! Disney is going to reboot Percy Jackson Guys, we have no words to describe this amazing feeling. WE DID IT! Thank you so much for the support. The demigods are the best! ...Wow. This is ridiculous. I like Percy Jackson, honestly, but it's ridiculous. So after a couple months, you send even more  junk?! I just wanted to share the absurdity of how desperate people can be during quarantine: Trying to friend their ex-friends.

Luiaard's Crits #2: The Unteachables

The Unteachables is an amazing book by author Gordon Korman. Not only do I recommend this book but also his other funny stories. When Mr. Kermit has to teach one more, just one more class before early retirement, it had to be: The Unteachables. The Unteachables are a group of trouble makers and misfits who, well, cause trouble. Aldo, who has anger issues. Elaine has a reputation that "rhymes with pain." Parker can't read. Barnstorm is a retired jock. Mateo is lost in fantasy worlds. Rahim the  sleep-deprived artist. And then there's Kiana who doesn't even belong there! Will Mr. Kermit survive with the  Unteachables? Will the Unteachables just prank him like all the other teachers? Or will Mr. Kermit and the  Unteachables become a class that no one will ever forget? Book: This is such an amazing book! There is humor, saving the day, and even a bit of mush. Read this! Gordon Korman always has a good plot and some humor packed into every one of his stories.

Rachel Luiaard: Death of Walking

Rachel Luiaard Age: Unknown Death: Walking Location: In the neighborhood in a very, very, hot Florida. Time: 11:53 a.m. Hahaha, sorry for being so dramatic. This was just to catch your attention of what really happened on May 16, 11:53 a.m. I had just finished breakfast, and it was actually pretty yummy. Hash browns, bread, eggs--well, enough of that. Anyway, I finished breakfast and my dad said, "Let's go walking!" I am not one of those daughters that cry and sob until the dad says "Fine, no walking." Instead, I am one of those daughters that have no choice but to go along. My mother was obviously another victim of this walking cause, so she tagged along. It surprisingly felt beautiful outside, the wind blowing, and the sun tucked away in a blanket of clouds. Next thing I knew, walking home was the opposite. The sun was beating down on me and it surrounded the whole neighborhood with it's scorching blaze. Then my dad led us to an even longer route, and all

Luiaard's Crits #1: The Book and Movie Flipped

Flipped is probably one of the best books or movies I have ever watched/read.  When they meet in second grade, Juli Baker instantly  falls  in love with her neighbor, Bryce Loski. Bryce, however, does not feel the spark. From that day forward, he tries hard to avoid Juli and keep her unpredictable-ness away. After six years, she begins to feel that she was wrong about him being the love of her life and looks beneath the surface. Unfortunately, that is just about the time that Bryce begins to think he was wrong about Juli, too.  Book:  It might be a romance, but it is a really cute book about how both of them see beneath the surface. It has a really good story even if it is a little mushy. I would give it 5 stars! Movie: I love the movie as well and I love how the director really alternated the point of view just like the author did in the book. The movie contains less details, but it is much more visual and it is as amazing as the book.

With Kids on the Weekends and 24/7 (Kid Perspective)

I wake up and immediately roll out of bed. Mommy is off work today and it feels good. The house is quiet, which kind of makes it creepy. I can't wait to fill it will sounds of fun and laughs. Mommy starts making breakfast but I stop her. I am eight years old. Can't I have breakfast making rights? After breakfast, mommy asks me if she wants to play UNO and Scrabble. I honestly don't understand the point, because she always wins in both ALL. THE. TIME. I ask her if she wants to be the judge of my airplane testing and she accepts. She must REALLY want to spend time with me! Trying to be as excited as her, we both have a breath-holding contest in the pool. But the really fun part was watching the movies with her. That part I liked. She ends up going wild and forces us to sleep at 11:00!     The next morning is a complete mood changer. She rushes to make breakfast and I stare as she scrambles the eggs by rapidly chopping them. To make her feel better, I make a flower drawing

Quarantining at Home

Day before quarantine:      The sun is shining, it's a beautiful day to walk outside and bike. I neatly fold my clothes and read a particularly interesting book about magic story portals. I can't wait until tonight, when we have movie night. Those nights only happen twice a week. At dinner, we have sushi, which costs A LOT . We talk all evening about school, work, and other stuff. Sadly we don't eat ice cream because, well, we have a diet. Who wants to look fat in front of people? After dinner, we watch a movie and go to bed at exactly 9:00. This specific Friday feels good.  Day in quarantine:     I drag myself out of bed, and the chirping birds combined with the morning sun is killing my eyes and ears. I stay in my pajamas and read an interesting book about the process of grass growing. After reading, I nap for the rest of the day...until my mom calls me for dinner. We don't have takeout. We don'e have a nice family meal. Instead we eat leftovers and don't talk

Dreams and Realities

Dream: I will exercise, jog, maybe even do some push ups! Reality: Sit on the couch and eat cupcakes. Dream: Time to work and finish that project! Reality: Type one sentence. Fall asleep. Dream: I am not going to play video games today. I will be a non-brain musher! Reality: Play video games for 5 hours. Dream: I am going to clean my room and it will look awesome! Reality: Leave clothes and junk on the floor. Only dust the piggy bank...with your finger. Dream: I have to help my mom with chores today! Reality: Let laundry sit on the couch for days, while you tell your  mom, "I will fold it tomorrow!" Dream: I am going to only shop for necessities. Reality: Buy everything!!! (Even that mini brush you use to clean your dog's eyelashes) Dream: Get plenty of sleep. Reality: ....Actually this matches the dream. Unless you like sleeping, this is second reality: Reality #2: Stay up all night wondering when the COVID will end.

The Pluses and Minuses of Life

Positive: The sun is shining, it's a beautiful day! Negative: But you gotta stay inside until the COVID goes away. Positive: Ummm...Oh look at this 12 season TV show! Negative: Didn't you finish that two weeks ago? Positive: Okay, I'm listening to new music, it's so cool! Negative: That 50's rock is too old school. Positive: ...My mask is so pretty, birds and everything! Negative: It will be splattered with coughs and the sneezes will fling. Positive: I got a stack of toilet paper just last night! Negative: You're going to run out when people will steal and fight. Positive: Well--I jogged about two weeks ago! Negative: You broke your ankle and you're too scared to go to the hospital. Positive: My friends just chatted a lot on Zoom! Negative: They're desperate too, they want to talk to you. Positive: WHAT is your problem ?! Negative: Hey, that's just how life is. Positive: Seriously? Negative: Yup.

Walking - The New Nightmare

I sit in my room, bored. I have watched all 196 episodes of my favorite TV show over one month, cleaned my room 16 times, and I have sat in the same position for over an hour. Finally, I stand and walk over to the kitchen to grab a cup of water. “Are you still in your pajamas,” my mom asks. I shrug and blindly miss the cup and pour water all over the floor. My mom rushes over, and as we are cleaning the mess up, I say “I can’t believe we are still having school even though we are at home. It’s so frustrating!” My mom looks at me and sighs. “I know, but it’s going to be okay. Are you planning to stay in those pajamas all day?” “Yes,” I say. “I want to go to bed without changing because it hurts my brain to go to my dresser.” My mom thinks. “What other things make your brain hurt?” I sit down, ready to list a long line of words. “Eating, sleeping, thinking, typing, working, washing my hands, doing nothing, doing something, and the biggest brain killer—walking.” My mom starts laughing. “W

With Kids on the Weekends and 24/7 (Adult Perspective)

I wake up and smell the lingering Febreeze in my room. The house is peaceful, calm, and most important, clean. This is the usual Saturday I have and that means I have the whole day with my eight-year-old. We begin by making breakfast together, then we play UNO and Scrabble. After that, she designs airplanes and asks me to be the judge. Then, we have a contest of who can hold their breath the longest in the pool. The last (but not least) fun activity we do together is watch a movie marathon. I know it’s a work/school night for both of us, but we end up sleeping at 11:00.      The next morning is nothing but chaos. I have to rush and make breakfast and get ready for work. My daughter keeps drawing flowers with her egg yolk on the table. Throwing a wet towel on the table, I carry her to the bathroom.  As she brushes her teeth, she asks me, “Did you like my yolk drawing?” I try my hardest not to blow up. “Yes sweetie, it was amazing. Please brush your teeth so mommy can put on her ma
